Kiwi Home Sellers respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal information. This policy explains, in plain English, what personal information we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and what your rights are under the Privacy Act 2020. “We” and “us” means Kiwi Home Sellers Limited, 49 Cullahill Street, Harewood, Christchurch, 8051 , New Zealand .
What we collect
When you fill in our contact form or get in touch with us directly, we may collect:
- your name, email address, phone number and postal address
- the address of the property you’re thinking of selling, and information about it
- anything else you choose to tell us, such as your preferred settlement timeline or your reasons for selling.
People often sell quickly because of a bereavement, separation, money pressures or health. If you share details like these, we keep them confidential and use them only to work out an offer that suits your situation.
When you visit our website, our hosting provider automatically records technical information such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you view. We use this only to keep the website running securely.
Information we get from other people
Sometimes we receive information about you from someone else. For example, a family member or representative might enquire on your behalf, a real estate agent or other professional might refer you to us, or we might check property records.
If we collect your personal information from someone other than you, we’ll let you know when we can reasonably do so, unless an exception under the Privacy Act applies, such as the information being publicly available.
Why we collect it
We use your information to:
- respond to your enquiry and contact you about your property
- assess whether your property suits a potential offer, and make you a cash offer
- arrange a viewing
- agree on and complete the sale if you decide to sell to us
- keep you updated about your enquiry
- improve our services
- meet our legal obligations, such as keeping tax records.
We don’t use your information for any other purpose, and we never sell it to third parties. We’ll only send you marketing emails if you agree, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
Do you have to give us your information?
No, it’s your choice. However, without your contact details and property address we can’t prepare an offer or get back to you.
Who we share it with
We only share your personal information when we need to:
- Service providers who help us run our business, such as our website host and our email delivery provider. They may only use your information to provide their service to us, and we take reasonable steps to make sure they meet privacy obligations too.
- People involved in buying your property, if you decide to sell to us. This may include our lawyer or conveyancer, your lawyer, valuers, building inspectors and finance providers.
- Anyone the law requires us to share it with.
Where your information is stored
Your information is stored securely, and may be kept in secure third-party services we use to run our business. Our service providers may store or process your information on servers outside New Zealand, e.g. in Australia or the United States. We choose providers that protect personal information to standards comparable to New Zealand’s.
How we protect it and how long we keep it
Only authorised members of our team can access your information, and we take reasonable steps to protect it from loss, misuse and unauthorised access. If a privacy breach is likely to cause you serious harm, we’ll tell you and the Privacy Commissioner, as the law requires.
If your enquiry doesn’t go ahead, we delete your details after 12 months. If you sell to us, we keep transaction records for seven years, as required for tax purposes.
Your rights
You have the right to ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, to ask us to correct it if it’s wrong, and to ask us to delete it. If we don’t agree that a correction is needed, you can ask us to attach a statement to your information recording the correction you asked for. We’ll respond within 20 working days. This website doesn’t use tracking or advertising cookies. We use the bare minimum cookies required to make the site work correctly in your web browser.
